This course provides a structured and practical approach to become an expert in thumb CMC total joint arthroplasty. It is designed for hand surgeons and upper-limb specialists seeking to refine surgical technique, decision-making, and procedural consistency.

Through high-quality, annotated operative videos and expert commentary, the course covers the complete surgical pathway—from patient selection and preoperative planning to implant positioning, soft-tissue management, postoperative rehabilitation, and management of failed or painful implants.

Emphasis is placed on technical nuances, avoidance of common pitfalls, and intra-operative problem solving that directly impact outcomes.

This educational activity is intended for qualified surgeons and is not a substitute for formal surgical training. Didactic instruction should be supplemented with hands-on practice using anatomical specimens and direct observation or mentorship under experienced surgeons.

Hi, I’m Joris Duerinckx

After completing my hand surgery fellowship at the C.M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville, USA, I began working as a hand and wrist surgeon in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at ZOL Hospital in Genk, Belgium. Alongside my clinical work, I am a professor of orthopedic surgery at Hasselt University. I also serve as a board member of the Belgian Hand Group and am a member of the European (FESSH) and American (ASSH) Societies for Hand Surgery.

Thumb CMC surgery has been a major focus of my career. I have published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters, and I completed my PhD in 2021 on thumb CMC total joint arthroplasty. Over the past 15 years, I have performed more than 1.000 thumb CMC implant procedures. This experience has led to international recognition, frequent invitations to speak at conferences, and active involvement in training surgeons.

I created this online course to share practical knowledge and help surgeons shorten the learning curve.
